Savoring time

Lately, I have been busy as a bee! Busy with life, wondering how come time goes by so much faster than when I was a young girl. Is it just me or does it seem like days and weeks (even years!) simply seem to fly by nowadays?

Since there isn't a time machine out on the market that can help me slow down the minutes of my days, I will just need to slow down and savor them as I know they will be memories soon.

Over the past few months, we've been enjoying Little League baseball games, one of our son's favorite sports. This keeps us busy with weeknight practices and Saturday games and we love every minute of it!

In the midst of everyday life, homework review, school activities, various sports functions, dinner, laundry, errands, and so on, I do find it relaxing to sit down for a few minutes to enjoy a cup of one of my favorite teas. Have you ever tried this one?

And if I'm blessed enough to enjoy my tea along with some friendly conversation, then you guessed it, there's always a little something sweet to go along with it!

Or if I don't have anything baked, a little chocolate is always wonderful. Which one would you go for? I'm a dark chocolate fan myself.

But trust me, my life isn't all tea and sweets and a neat little tearoom to enjoy it in. With an active boy and a husband who lives and breathes sports too, it's hard not to trip up over balls sometimes!

When you have a 7-year old boy, you need to do things a 7-year old boy enjoys doing and sharing a lovely teatime isn't on his list these days! No, a lot of times I find myself playing catch in the backyard, cheering over every little and big fish that he catches (and releases), and sharing some of the humor that makes a little boy laugh the kind of laugh you just want to bottle up! In fact, that's what we have in this book:

If you haven't read it you must, especially if you have a little one in your life... or a dog with flatulence issues! It is such a cute story about this great dog Walter. I was at Barnes and Noble laughing so hard I just had to buy it!

But, in the midst of the busyiness of life, family and home, I hope I never forget that the only reason I am this blessed to have a family that keeps me busy from morning until night and to have a home that takes forever to clean is absolutely by the great grace of God. To Him, I owe everything. And I need to spend more time reading His word, hiding it in my heart.

Lord, please help me to slow down and savor each moment of my life, today, tomorrow and always. In Jesus' name, Amen.

May your days be filled with lots of joy and laughter, with the love of your family and friends and with satisfaction in all your accomplishments, big and small.

{Hugs}

Melody,

I agree that the days and years seem to go by faster and faster as we get older. Your life sounds truly joyful. My time with tea is one of my respites in this crazy hectic thing we call life. I too feel blessed to have a house to clean, a job to go to (and complain about occasionally), a car that runs, and a country to live in where I can worship God openly and freely. We seem to have something else in common-dark chocolate is my favorite too:) I am hosting a blog tea party on June 6th. Come on over and have some tea time with the girls if you can!

Blessings,

Kim

I have such wonderful memories of the years our son played baseball, starting with T-ball when he was 6 & the last summer he played at age 13. He decided he'd rather play golf.

Blessings,
Carol

This is a great post and so true! I will have to check out the book. Even at 2 1/2 my little girl this passing gas is funny!

Hi Gorgeous, I understand your business my friend, completely! I've been off the airwaves myself for a few weeks. I agree with you too that time goes fast but I think it's because when we were young we hardly had anything to get our attention. Same old, same old day after day. I remember waiting WEEKS for new movies to change at my town's ONLY movie theatre. Fast forward 20 years and so much has come into our lives that challenge me every 20 minutes for my attention! Geez! ha ha Glad to see you are spending it with your family though, have a blessed weekend!

Time does seem to go by way faster than it did when I was younger. Tea & chocolate sounds really nice!

My youngest son turned 21 today, he's now in college working on an accounting degree, but seems like just yesterday he was in Little League. Fun days!

Our daughters played on park leagues when they were in grade school. One year when it was coach pitch, we lost the coach. I was the only mom who could pitch the ball over the home plate so I got the privilege. I'm glad that's over:)
Thanks for leaving me a comment about my herbs. I owe my success to an excessive amount of time I have now that my children are grown. I'm glad to see that you are holding on to every moment and enjoying it; it goes quickly. I like that nick name!

How true...enjoy life, as it sound like you are doing. My oldest turned 21 yesterday and my son is 14 - I just don't know where the years went. I would love to raise them all over again and just savor it this time around.

I know what you about that time...Surely time seems to go by so much faster than when I was a younger. It will definitely get away so we must try to make every moment count.

Time, yes, it does seem to whip by faster and faster. I do need to consciously slow down and savor the moments.

I'll have to check out that book out. I'm sure the boys in my dayhome would love it.

I so agree, time goes by so quickly and we forget to enjoy the time we are given. I had to laugh with the book. My children would have loved this one (they are all grown now). We had a dog named Wishbone. One Christmas, the kids fed him some smoked turkey....(he was an inside dog).....let's just say that from then on they followed my rule about not feeding the dog the table scraps. LOL. On the candy, it is so hard to pick one....if I knew there was coconut or marshmallow hiding inside...that would be the one I would chose. The heart shaped also looked good! blessings,Kathleen

What a wonderful post Melody. I think you're absolutely right - time just has a way of speeding up the older we get. I'm a grandmother now, and I look at my grown children and wonder how the years could have possibly gone by so quickly. You are so wise to savor these days and years. The time you invest in your family will give you multiplied blessings.
I'd love to join you for a cup of tea. I'll take a dark chocolate with nuts!!

Yes, time does fly as you get older. It just seemed like my kids were little yesterday and today I'm teaching my daughter to drive. Love the chocolates! My hubby loves green tea, need to look for this mixture. Hope you're enjoying the week!

Slowing down is always so hard isn't it? Not that we don't want to ... but the world just seems to spin too fast.

Oh, if only we could have read that book when we had 3 small boys growing up here. How hilarious! I am going to have to look that one up for gifts. I could use that kind of laugh.

What a sweet post! And you know what I think? I think that the Lord enjoys watching you play catch in the back yard with your son, that He enjoys going to Little League games with you, and that He loves watching you nurture your husband and your son. AND I think the Lord would probably take that chocolate piece that's shaped like a heart because He is sentimental! After all, the Bible is a love song to us. :-)

Those things with your son and your husband are true accomplishments, and when they're done as unto the Lord, they are even sweeter.

I have found that I can hide His word in my heart even at the busiest occasion and draw on it, and I can dwell on Him and thank Him while watching screaming children play or women at a banquet giving speeches. Just stop in the middle of that chaos, that baseball game or playing catch, and dwell on (enjoy) the fact that He is right there with you, smiling at you for loving your family, your friends, or others.

I am reminded of something I learned as a young child in the Presbyterian Church. Q: What is the chief end of man? A: The chief end of man is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever! And when you think of how much joy He feels when you enjoy the fact that He's accompanying you and thank Him for it, it can make your whole day complete! It does mine! :-)

XO,

Sheila

It is hard to savor days when time does seem to go so fast. I know I have to stop myself sometimes, and just be aware of the moment and enjoy it! The strawberry green tea looks good. I will have to look for it. I love milk chocolate, but enjoy dark as well. I hope you have a lovely week!

Ah! A post that has everything! :o)

Want some of that strawberry tea!

You know, even kids are saying time is passing too quickly. I thought it was just us older folk.

That book looks too funny. I don't have little kids or a dog, but I'm sure my husband would think it's hilarious so I'll have to try to find it.

I feel the same way you do about my blessed life.
It's only by the grace of God.
I've been convicted lately about making sure I have my quiet time in His Word in the mornings instead of immediately getting on the computer.

Enjoy these sweet times with your son. They truly do grow up too quickly.

Have a great weekend.
Valerie

I agree with you that time seems to be flying faster every day. I have not tried the tea you mention, but it looks yummy. I'll have to pick some up. Looks like a nice one for this time of year.

Have a happy Memorial Day weekend.

Poor Walter! He must have a hard time keeping friends with an issue like that!
Thank-you Melody for this post! You've made me giggle a little and definitely reminded me I need to hide His word in my heart too. It's so easy to get busy and gloss over the things that are most important in our lives. We went to a marriage seminar last weekend that talked about "hiding his word in our hearts" and I think it's no coincidence that you chose those exact words!
